============================================

Thanks very much for subscribing to Mind Matters, the newsletter that turns brain research into practical leadership tools. This issue is only 289 words and takes less than 2 minutes to read.

Later in "News & Resources," a link to a free coaching call in May and a book on emotional intelligence and money.

============================================

Next up in my video series---How Seven Leaders Stopped Making these Seven Brain-based Mistakes during Accountability Conversations--- Too much tell. The video is under 6 minutes. It describes how my client, Karen, got nowhere by trying to tell one of her managers, Randall, that he needed to change his behavior.

Telling is like teflon. It slides right off.

The video will give you several practical tips on how to change your communication style from Tell to Ask. I hope you find it helpful. Let me know if you have questions or comments about the video.

News and Resources:

  • Join us for a free 20-minute teleclass on Shifting from Tell to Ask. Register for the free call coming up on Wednesday, May 11th. I’ll share specific tools on how to:

    • notice the slightest amount of resistance,
    • stay calm when someone is pushing back on your idea or request, and
    • shift from Tell to Ask to lower the other person's resistance, engage them in problem solving, and assure lasting results.

  • Financial Intelligence: How to Make Smart, Values-Based Decisions with Your Money and Your Life Whether you're a spender or a saver, this book is helpful. Certified Financial Planner Doug Lennick and co-author Kathleen Jordan describe a step-by-step process for overcoming your brain's tendency to make poor financial and life decisions when faced with emotionally charged events. Regularly reflecting on your values and goals calms your mind's reactivity and helps you make wise decisions.

Best wishes,

Suzanne
